The Paulding County School District named its player of the year honorees for baseball, golf, soccer, tennis and track last week.

East Paulding senior Mitchell Webb received the honor for baseball after leading the Raiders to 18 wins and a second-round appearance in the Georgia High School Association Class 5A playoffs. The third baseman and pitcher finished the regular season with a batting average of .405 with seven home runs and threw a no-hitter against Hiram in a 4-0 victory March 19.

“Mitchell has worked hard and been an outstanding player for us,” East Paulding baseball head coach Tony Boyd said.

The Raiders had another player honored as girls’ soccer player Kalea Romano won player of the year after scoring 35 goals and notching 18 assists this season. The junior helped East Paulding make the state playoffs for the first time in three years.

“Kalea is an amazing player with great field vision and distributes the ball well,” head coach Art Cartee said.

Paulding County High School saw boys’ soccer player Chandler Collins and girls’ tennis athlete Ashlee Goff win awards in their respective sports. Collins was the Patriots’ leading scorer.

“Chandler is a great student who acted like our captain on and off the field,” head coach Zack Turner said.

North Paulding had three seniors named the best in the county for their sports. Peyton Hendon helped lead the girls’ golf team to a region championship and an appearance in the state tournament.

The Wolfpack boys’ tennis team made the state playoffs behind C.J. Williams, who won 11 singles’ matches which each led to team victories.

“C.J. has represented his family, team and community with the greatest dignity,” tennis head coach Barry Dukes said.

Qua Stocks of North Paulding received the award for boys’ track and field after winning the state title in the long jump competition at the championship meet May 10.

South Paulding golfer Henry Gee won the boys’ golf player of the year after leading the Spartans to a region championship. Fellow Spartan Kahliyah Smith gained the girls’ track and field honor after a fifth-place finish at the State Meet in the 100-meter dash.
