Arrington wins District 5

With all Fulton County precincts reporting runoff election results as of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Marvin Arrington Jr. beat Brenda Muhammad in the battle for new county commission District 5.

In the 60 precincts in District 5, Arrington maintained his 60 percent lead over Muhammad's 40 percent, ultimately garnering 4,416 votes to her 2,790 out of 6,976 votes cast.

The new Fulton County Superior Court judge is Jane Barwick, who beat contender Shelitha Robertson in a nearly two-to-one ratio. Barwick commanded 63 percent, or 30,057 votes to Robertson's 37 percent, or 17,991.

In other races, Fulton County voters echoed state results in choosing David Perdue over Jack Kingston as the GOP nominee for U.S. Senator. Perdue won 55 percent of the county's votes with 16,820 compared to Kingston's 45 percent, or 13,841. Statewide, the votes were split 50.88 to 49.12 in favor of Perdue.

Fulton Republicans also narrowly chose Michael Buck over Richard Woods for state school superintendent with 50.17 percent of the vote, or 11,229 versus 49.83 percent, or 11,153. But statewide, Woods took his party's nomination with 50.09 percent, ultimately garnering 199,257 votes over Buck's 49.91 percent, or 198,531 votes.

He will face Democrat Valarie Wilson on Nov. 4. County voters also picked the winner in the race between her and Alisha Morgan, giving Wilson 55.86 percent of the tally with 11,601 votes versus 44.14 percent, or 9,168. Statewide, the gap was 54.38 percent to 45.61.
