“We’re growing so we can’t house everybody here at the chamber office any longer,” she said.
Last year’s event brought out about 135 attendees, and this year Lanham is hoping for more than 200. Event attendees are asked to register in advance.
The party will include music by Men Without Youth and Tyler Barham. There will also be food, giveaways, networking opportunities and chamber members displaying their businesses. The event is open to the general public.
“It’s going to be a summer get-together celebrating our members and the community,” Lanham said. “It will be a great opportunity for exclusive networking. You’re just not going to meet this group of people anywhere.” The celebration also serves as a benefit for North Fulton Community Charities. Guests are asked to bring nonperishable food donations and other items to help stock the organization’s pantry.
“We service about 100 families a day,” said Melody Fortin, the pantry’s manager. “We put out about eight to 10 tons of food a week. So our pantry shelves constantly need restocking, especially in the summer. When kids are out of school we go through so much more food because they’re not getting their free lunches or their subsidized lunches or their breakfast, even.”
Desired items for donation include canned tomatoes, tomato paste, spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, peanut butter, canned peas and mixed vegetables, canned meat, boxed meals such as Hamburger Helper, fruit juice, dried beans, oil, sugar, toilet paper, paper towels and diapers sizes four to six. Items in glass containers will not be accepted. The organization will have a truck at the event to collect and transport the items, Fortin said. Lanham said community members can also drop off donations at the chamber in advance of the event. The chamber is at 11605 Haynes Bridge Road, Suite 100, in Alpharetta. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
