The Friends of Chamblee Library is getting ready for their biggest and most popular book sale of the year Aug. 7 through 9 and Aug. 11.

A preview event for members only will run from 1 to 4 p.m. that Thursday while the sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that Friday, Saturday and Monday at 4115 Clairmont Road.

On Aug. 11, customers can fill a plastic bag with books and purchase it for $3.

Thousands of books from various genres, including fiction, nonfiction, religious texts, cookbooks, children’s books and many more will be on sale starting at 50 cents.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Chamblee library. Branch manager Nez Crosby said events like the book sale, hosted by the friends group, is a big help.

“Each of the branch libraries have their own friends group that supports that particular branch, so any of the revenue they sell goes back to that library and helps fund books for adults and children in the community, buy and update equipment if need be and much more,” she said.

Last August, the sale raised about $2,500 for the library and past sales have helped fund essential equipment such as die-cutting machines, shelving, printers and scanners.

“Any little bit helps us to provide for our community and continue the services we offer, which can include helping people search for jobs through Internet access and build resumes to providing a place for learning for children after school,” Crosby said. “The friends group has been gracious enough to give us 50 percent of every dollar of the revenue from the book sale for new books alone and the rest is divided out for programs, which is a huge help, especially in this economy where not as much funding may be available for libraries.”

Book donations for the sale will be accepted until Monday and tax deductible receipts will be available.
