On Aug. 5, Tim Nama officially announced his intention to seek the open District 2 Brookhaven City Council seat and his resignation from the zoning board of appeals.

“After much encouragement, and lengthy discussion with my family, I have decided to take my service to the people of Brookhaven to the next level,” said Nama. “As a city, we are still young. We have a lot of potential, but there are many challenges as well.”

Nama, who is a native of the community that is now incorporated as Brookhaven, has spent his whole life, other than his college years, here. He was on the board of Citizens for North DeKalb and he worked with Brookhaven YES to incorporate the city. Since incorporation, he has served as chair of the city’s zoning board.

“Together, our community is laying a foundation for the future,” said Nama. “My time as chairman of the ZBA shows me we have issues that need to be addressed to protect the integrity, and quality, of our neighborhoods. I want to bring my experience to the city council to make sure we have a top notch planning system in place that will protect and enhance our neighborhoods while giving clear rules to builders.”

“As a father of three small children, our parks are extremely important to me,” Nama said. “Parks are where our community comes together. After years of neglect from DeKalb, it will take time, but I’m convinced we can have the best parks in the metro area.”

Nama is married to Stacey. They live in the Ashford Park neighborhood with their three children; Miller, 5, Dru, 2 and Cail, 18 months. The family attends St. Martins Episcopal Church. Nama is a small business owner involved in home building and real estate investing.
