The society, a nonprofit dedicated to identifying, preserving, and promoting Buckhead’s historic resources, has worked over the last 10 months with a 28-member steering committee representing nonprofits, neighborhood associations, area conservancies and local government to create the plan.
Consultants from Signature Design have worked with the team to develop an overarching and integrated set of Buckhead storylines, create a storyline site map, conceive preliminary concepts for interpretive signage and exhibit art and produce a strategy for implementation. The plan for Buckhead is scheduled to be completed in October.
The society will reveal the plan’s finalized interpretive signage and exhibit concepts to the public at the Buckhead Business Association’s 10th annual Taste of Buckhead event Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Buckhead Theatre, 3110 Roswell Road.
Part of the proceeds from live and silent auctions at the event will benefit the society and the interpretive program. General admission tickets are $50 until Sunday and $75 afterward.
“Buckhead Heritage is excited to reveal the interpretive concepts our team has developed to the public,” society Executive Director Erica Danylchak said. “Unconventional exhibit art, along with interpretive signage, will be used to evoke Buckhead’s history in imaginative ways in parks and urban plazas in the community. The interpretive master plan will serve as our roadmap over the next several years for building an engaging and memorable interpretive experience in Buckhead.”
The plan for Buckhead is an outgrowth of the Buckhead greenspace action plan.
During the community engagement process for the greenspace plan, stakeholders agreed integrating Buckhead’s cultural and historical assets into the community’s greenspace system through interpretation would enrich the experience of the community’s existing and future network of parks, trails and greenspaces, further the community’s awareness of Buckhead’s history and position Buckhead to take advantage of the state’s fastest growing tourism industry segment — heritage tourism.
